Happiness comes from serving others

by Peter Brown

What do you usually do when you have free time? Sleeping? Playing online games? If you are thinking of what to do in the coming weekend, why not try to be a volunteer and to serve the needy ones in society?

I have 10 years experience of being a volunteer. You can call me as a ‘fan’ of serving others as being a volunteer brings me the greatest amount of happiness.

The first time I served others, I was 7-yr-old. I visited a home for elderly. I will never forget how happy the elderly people were when my classmates and I made performances and chatted with them. So impressive!

When I entered secondary school, I have more chances to serve others. I participated in different service programmes organized by various charities. Those times were marvelous. But, they are not the most fab parts in my life of serving others!

The most interesting part of being a volunteer is to try orgainizing service programmes. When I was promoted to high school, I had the chance to hold service projects. It was from that time onward, I love serving others even more.

I did not choose to leave my volunteer life even after I became a Uni student. As a University student, life is actually quite hard as I have tonnes of work to do. However, when I am having fun with those I serve, I see their smiles, they make me smile too, and make me feel the love between human beings. All these swept away my work pressure.

Even after my university life, I wish I could serve others by providing service using my knowledge. I want to assist charitable organisations by giving them free administrative service so that they can save more money for serving more people.

Serving others is not just about making others smile, it is also to make yourself feel happy when you feel their joy. String up and be a volunteer TODAY!
