If you are looking to get traffic to your new website, you may have heard that you can use use social networking or social media sites, such as Myspace or Facebook, to drive users of these services to you. There are a few problems with this strategy. With the advent of quick and easy sites, like Twitter, social networking and media sites have seen a marked decline in the amount of frequent users. Consider these points before you solely rely on social networking sites to drive traffic to your website:

* Myspace and Facebook have a huge number of dead pages - So many users have “been there, done that” that they do not login to there accounts anymore. You would basically be marketing to the wall. * Myspace and Facebook has implemented numerous safety guards - They have made changes which are hypersensitive against spam, and they label any outgoing links as spam or potential phishing sites. This puts a scare into people using these services, and causes them to apprehensive to clicking any outgoing links to your site. * Social Networking is about dead - When these services were new, they were great. While you may find some amount of success with these sites, your effectiveness rate would be about 30% of what you would normally expect.

5 Ways To Achieve Twitter Rockstar Status:

by Marenda Taylor

1. Tweet and Retweet. “Tweeting” is when you add an update to your Twitter status. “Retweeting” is when you add someone else’s “tweet” to your Twitter status by pasting the original tweet into your status box, (before clicking update add RT @ before the name of originator of the the tweet). Retweeting is like giving a thumbs up on Twitter. Its a way of honoring a follower for sharing a specific tweet. Quite often your followers will retweet your retweet, so its a good practice to only retweet really good tweets for added credibility!

2. Customize Your Twitter Profile. The default profile is generic and does not give prospective followers an insight to your brand. Show who you are by personalizing your profile with an interesting custom background and profile photo.

3. Follow and They’ll Come Following. Perhaps you’ve heard the old saying “to have friends you must show yourself friendly,” this definitely holds true on Twitter. You have to follow to have followers. Locate and follow Twitter users that share similar interests and/or that meet your particular demographic.

I often speak with lawyers that are intrigued with the new social media websites. They tell me that they want to get involved using Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter to generate new prospects for their firm. The first question I bring up is do you write a blog?

Advertising for lawyers with social media: I want quick results please.

I think all of us would prefer the shorter easier path if given the option. Unfortunately, this isn’t the best route to take for lawyer marketing with social media. Even though posting an update on Twitter or Facebook can share your thoughts with others, it doesn’t provide the depth that writing a good blog post does. One of the best uses of social media is sharing your blog posts with other Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn users.

If your lawyer marketing efforts are simply status updates on Twitter and Facebook, without any longer, thought out content of your own, then you will be making comments about many things, but adding nothing of substance to the conversation.

Having a list of your own is a *must* if you want to succeed online.

Every guru says it. Ever wonder why?

Because it’s true! ;)
My mailing lists are the single most valuable asset I own online- more valuable even than owning the Directory of Ezines.

With my lists I can build, or rebuild, a business. I’m back at square one without them.

Do you have a list yet?

If not, and you don’t have any money to spend, a website of your own or any traffic, here are four simple ideas you can use today to start building a list of your own!

These are all methods I have used, and I still use *each* of them today.

These methods work. They will work for you too.

Idea 1 - Your Email Signature Line

Right now go to your “sent email” folder and look at the email you sent today. Does your email include an offer for someone to join your list? I’m willing to guess that it does *not.*

I’m sure you have heard of sites like Facebook and Twitter. They’re well-known as social networking communities. These portals let people form an internet community to share their knowledge about stuff they are interested in.

That is great, but what really counts for Internet marketers is the fact that communities of folks who truly interested in a hobby can be a gold mine… if you can find out a technique to market to this community without bringing them away.

And the makings to turn people off has been genuine road block for people who try to marketing to communities, using what is called social marketing.

There are some community sites that don’t but the disadvantage is they can change the terms of service at any time and turn off your income stream. This would be bad. Till now, creating your own social networking sites has been something like building your own car.

The Twitter Slap and How to Handle It

by Jan Shimano

The first time I heard about Twitter was just three months ago. I was introduced to Facebook and YouTube at the same time. My thinking was that these sites were great places to interact with other like-minded people and I signed up for all three.

I immediately became active on all three sites and was learning as I went along. I had been advised that according to Twitter etiquette, it would be proper for me to follow back everyone that followed me. There was a free tool that was available that allowed me to do this, and to also automatically thank people for following me. I got everything set up and then started following people that I found interesting. Some of these people automatically followed me back, whereas others didn’t.
