Twitter and Facebook. Is it worth my time?

by Jan Shimano

When I first got into the internet marketing business, I heard people talking about their Facebook and Twitter pages. I didn’t pay too much attention at first, but then as I was hearing more and more about these two sites, I decided to do a little research.

What I discovered really took me by surprise. It became obvious that these were two serious sites. They were not only being used by teenagers who just enjoyed spending their spare time messaging back and fore to their friends. These sites were being used by all types of very prominent business people.

Even when I realized that a lot of successful people were utilizing Twitter and Facebook, I still did not understand what they could possibly be getting out of it. So it was time to do a deeper study of the sites. What I eventually found out absolutely shocked me. People were reporting that they were making literally thousands of dollars each and every month by utilizing these two websites.

Some of them had even taken a course or two on how to best utilize these social networking sites. They took it seriously, and each day they set time aside to do some postings and to interact with others.

It was suggested that you build up your list of ‘friends’ gradually. Newbies are tempted to add as many friends as possible in as fast a time as possible. However, this is not a good idea. Quality is more important that quantity if you are looking at this from a business standpoint. The first 100-200 friends you add are the most impactful. You want to make these high level people in your industry.

Another suggestion is to add content to your sites on a daily basis, if at all possible. You don’t have to spend a lot of time. Sometimes just 5 minutes a day is sufficient. You could update your status, pull up news feeds and comment as much as you can. The search engines love content so try to continually be adding relevant information to your pages.

These website are growing faster than the speed of light. Facebook is the 5th largest visited website in the entire World and Twitter is actually adding more users a day that Facebook. Because you are limited to leaving a very small message on Twitter, it literally only takes seconds to post and you can do it as many times a day as you like. To top it off, they are both free services.

I now have my own Facebook and Twitter accounts and I invite you to sign up also.
